Hello, my dears! It’s Alla Sem here. When I weighed 110 kg, I thought healthy eating meant saying goodbye to all my favorite foods forever. I was wrong! Healthy eating doesn’t mean giving up the food you love and starving yourself to stay thin. It’s about having more energy, feeling better, and keeping yourself healthy. You can achieve this by learning about nutrition basics and understanding how to eat smart. With good food choices, you can reduce your risk of illnesses like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. You can also improve your health by sharpening your memory and boosting your energy with good foods. Let me share what I’ve learned on my journey from 110 kg to 80 kg.
Healthy eating tip 1: Set yourself up for success
You should think about healthy eating if you want to have good health. But here’s the secret – it starts with your commitment. Instead of counting every single calorie, try to simplify your diet in terms of variety, color, and freshness. Focus on foods which you actually enjoy, and you can make your diet both healthier and delicious. Make changes in your eating habits slowly. This gradual approach will lead to lasting improvements in your food choices.
Think of exercise as a food group in your diet. You can add exercise or any other activity to your daily routine. It will provide you plenty of benefits and will keep you motivated to make healthy food choices. Even a 20 minute walk counts!
Healthy eating tip 2: Moderation is key
It is important for you to know that moderation is the foundation of any healthy diet. There should be balance in proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins to sustain a healthy body. Please don’t think of certain foods as “bad” or “forbidden.” This mindset never works long term. If you love sweet, salty, or rich foods, you don’t have to eliminate them. Just reduce your portion sizes. Have smaller portions. Add a teaspoon of olive oil instead of pouring it. Enjoy a small piece of dark chocolate instead of the whole bar. This is how I learned to live with my favorite foods without letting them control me.
Healthy eating tip 3: It’s not just what you eat, it’s how you eat
Healthy eating is about more than what’s on your plate. It’s about how you think about food and how you eat it. You can easily learn healthy eating habits, but you must start thinking about nourishment instead of just gulping down food between meetings or while rushing through your day.
Eat with others whenever possible. Try to eat with friends or family members whenever you can. It’s beneficial both socially and emotionally, especially for children. You can learn and model healthy eating habits in these moments. Plus, you eat more slowly when you’re talking!

Avoid eating in front of screens. Eating in front of the computer or television leads to mindless overeating. You don’t even realize how much you’ve consumed because you’re distracted.
Slow down and chew properly. Don’t eat your food in a hurry. Take your time and chew thoroughly. Enjoy your mealtimes. You’ll actually taste your food better when you eat slowly. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to tell your body that you’re full. Give it time to send that message!
Listen to your body. Eat according to what your body needs. Stop eating when you feel full, not when your plate is empty. This was a huge lesson for me. Learning to recognize fullness took time, but it changed everything.
Never skip breakfast. This is non-negotiable, my dears! Breakfast starts your metabolism working for the day. Try to eat four to six smaller meals throughout the day instead of three huge ones. When you eat small, balanced meals, your metabolism keeps working and you have steady energy all day long.
Remember, changing your eating habits is a journey, not a destination. I didn’t learn all of this overnight. Be patient with yourself, celebrate small victories, and keep going. You’ve got this!
With love and belief in you,
Alla Sem
